Reliance Retail Limited launches Jio Mart
Reliance Retail Limited has launched Jio Mart (JioMart). The company has also started sending invitations to its Jio Telecom users for this. The company has called Jio Mart the country’s new store. It will begin with Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Kalyan. According to the company, the Geo Mart app will also be launched soon.
Reliance plans to create the world’s largest online-to-offline e-commerce market in the country. Reliance has named it ‘New Cormus’. The high-speed digital platform will be connected to grocery stores under Reliance’s new retail plan. It can also be used to supply orders to customers.
Kerala Assembly passes resolution against CAA
The Kerala Legislative Assembly has passed a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) on 31 December 2019. Kerala is the first state to do so. Kerala Chief Minister P. Vijayan, while presenting the proposal, demanded that the central government withdraw this law.
Chief Minister P. Vijayan had already announced that his government will not implement the revised Citizenship Act and National Population Register (NPR) in his state. The ruling CPM-led LDF government and the opposition Congress-led UDF have supported the proposal in the Assembly.
Electronic payments will be on businesses that do not accept 5, 000 per day penalty
The Modi government has recently taken a very important step to promote digital transactions. The central government has ordered heavy fines on shopkeepers, traders and companies that do not provide electronic payment facilities to customers.
The Finance Ministry has made it mandatory for businesses with sales of more than Rs 50 crore to provide electronic payment services to customers from January 2020. The Ministry has asked to accept the mode of digital transaction and the debit card of RuPay. According to the ministry, businesses not doing so will be fined Rs 5,000 per day from February.
Deadline for adding PAN to Aadhaar extended to 31 March 2020
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) recently extended the last date for linking PAN (Permanent Account Number) with Aadhaar to 31 March 2020. This date was earlier on 31 December 2019. The government has extended the deadline for linking Aadhaar with PAN for the 8th time. It is mandatory to link Aadhaar with PAN for filing income tax.
Aadhar-PAN link is also mandatory for filing income tax returns from 01 April 2019. PAN is an identification number with 10 characters (alpha-numeric). It is issued by the Income Tax Department. Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number. It is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
Policy Commission ‘ SDGs India Index ” and ” dashboard 2019 ‘ launched
NITI Aayog has recently launched the second edition of the ‘Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) India Index’. This year is widely reflected in the progress made by the states and union territories of India towards achieving the 2030 SDG targets.
The SDG India Index 2019 is actually much more robust than the first version thanks to its wide coverage of different targets and indicators, and its association with the NIF is also relatively high. SDG India Index 2019 is available on an online dashboard that has wide relevance in the policy field, civil society, business world, and academia.
