the petition has been filed under Article 131 giving the Supreme Court the right to be heard if there is no agreement between the Center and other states. Significantly, before this, the Kerala Assembly has passed a resolution against the CAA. The Supreme Court is already hearing about 60 petitions against this law. The Kerala government, which reached the Supreme Court against the CAA, said that this law is against the basic principles of secularism along with Articles 14, 21 and 25 of the Indian Constitution.

High Court bench hearing Musharraf’s petitions against the Pervez Musharraf judgment ruled that the sedition case against Musharraf was not prepared as per law. Musharraf was sentenced to death by the special court in this case on 17 December 2019. This case was filed in 2013 by the then Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) government. Musharraf, in his petition, had urged the Lahore High Court to quash the decision of the special court as being against the provisions of the Constitution.

Every year, National Youth Day is celebrated on 12 January on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Its main objective is to promote rational thinking among the youth considered to be the future of the country. National Youth Day was first celebrated in the year 1985. Swami Vivekananda was born on 12 January 1863 in Kolkata. He was a worthy disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.

Senior IPS officer AP Maheshwari was recently appointed as Director-General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Maheshwari, a 1984 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre officer, is currently Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Union Home Ministry. He will take over the command of CRPF by 28 February 2021. CRPF is India’s leading internal security force, which is also the largest paramilitary force in the world with over 1.25 lakh personnel.

This meeting reviewed the progress made under the ‘Holistic Development of Islands’ program. The Central Government constituted the Island Development Agency on 01 June 2017 for the development of the Indian islands. It is headed by the Union Home Minister. For the first time, the initiative of sustainable development of islands is being taken under the guidance of the Island Development Agency.

7th Commonwealth Parliamentary Union Conference has been organized in Lucknow. UP Vidhan Sabha Speaker Hridaynarayan Dixit started the conference with a welcome address. About 100 delegates from across the country are participating in the conference. Uttar Pradesh has got the opportunity to host the conference of the CPA India Region for the first time. CPA India Zone is headed by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The theme of this conference is the ‘Role of People’s Representatives’.
